Reimagining the Talaga Sampireun Experience in Bali
K-Thengono Design Studio brings new life to Amanaia's Bali location with an innovative concept that diverges from the conventional setup of individual saung (Sundanese huts) and separate dining halls. Instead, the design team has crafted a cohesive narrative inspired by villages from a bygone era.
A river-like axis is central to the design, featuring a continuous, curved spine surrounded by a lake. Along this "river," spacious dining areas rest on its bends with open-air saung nestled along its path — reminiscent of traditional riverside settlements. This novel design approach provides the main dining areas with direct access to the water's edge, allowing guests to feed fish and bask in the tranquil waterscape.
Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a soaring roof that gradually descends, guiding them toward the dining area and fostering an intimate atmosphere. Strategic skylights punctuate the high roof, inviting dramatic natural light and enhancing visual appeal.
Embracing refreshing openness and maximizing natural ventilation, walls are intentionally absent, blurring boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. This creates a unique, unified atmosphere that feels continuous and uninterrupted.
The immersive experience is further enhanced by a design that engages all senses. Songbirds serenade guests as fragrant cuisine tantalizes the palate. Local materials such as teak, brass, and red brick contrast with modern steel structures, while artisan-crafted rattan ceiling elements add warmth, honoring the region's rich craft heritage.
Amanaia's Bali outpost transcends culinary expectations, blending nature, tradition, and contemporary design. It invites guests to immerse themselves in a uniquely Indonesian experience, fostering connection and gathering within its thoughtfully crafted spaces.
