Requalification, redesign and expansion of a historical cemetery
The intervention consists of a series of transformations of pedestrian grounds and current permeable surfaces with the aim of generating a new system of paths and specialized uses in safe conditions and in the absence of any type of architectural barrier.

The creation of new continuous and perfectly flat paved surfaces, for the exclusive use of pedestrians, as well as the formation of new planted green areas, allow the definition of a new continuous ground that is safe and suitable for free access to cemetery appurtenances even by people with different abilities or in a wheelchair.

Particular attention is paid to choices aimed at creating a new artificial and high-quality urban "landscape", a place where memory finds a scenario emotionally suited to its representation, a space in which to deposit collective feelings with dignity.

The architectural project, minimal and delicate, pays particular attention to the choice of materials and plant accessories, in the creation of a contemporary visual scenario but at the same time in balance with local environmental and construction traditions.

A system of green infiltrations, similar to "vegetal joints", inserted wherever possible according to a mosaic scheme, draws a particle cloud of new vegetal presences with the aim of increasing the environmental, atmospheric and visual quality of the worship space, now completely mineralized and without any vegetation intervention.

Filtering paths in light grit alternate with dirt paths and cubed porphyry fields. The latter are chosen from waste materials, to create vibrant and "tactile" surfaces for which the elements are all of different shapes and sizes; regularity and perfection here give way to defects, imprecision, scars as a metaphor for every human existence.

The new underground family tombs are designed in the appearance of large petrified beds, covered with natural travertine with warm colors and soft surfaces. The tombs are as if they were lying on the ground, almost simply placed on the surface of this large garden in which colors and scents now reign.

Cypresses and cherry trees complete the landscape of memory and meditation, giving the places a soft character and a "consoling" vocation for the living, so to speak.
