This bare-shell three-bedroom apartment in a newly-constructed high-rise had a magnificent view of the city racecourse. Since the clients wanted their home to be soothing, timeless, and elegant, these became the keystones for the design language.
A neutral material palette of soft white, grey, and black shades ensures that these remain the underlying theme throughout the apartment that includes two bedrooms, a guest suite, and a study.
The most arresting feature on entering is the welcoming entrance foyer that leads to the central living and dining space. Right from the entrance, a light and airy palette of colours and materials is apparent. A long wide corridor with a cosy seating area is cloaked in white shades. It leads to the central living and dining zone with balconies on either end. On one side of this corridor lies the study and kitchen, while the other end houses a powder room. The bedrooms lie beyond the living and dining areas.
A seamless link is created between the study, kitchen, and corridor with the help of glass doors. Nupur and Saahil enjoyed designing the small study as it accommodates a floor-to-ceiling bookcase, an extremely cushy easy chair and footstool. The dry smell of old books and the intimate scale makes this space cosy, warm, and inviting.
The soft, pristine palette continues throughout the home right up to the guest room, which is separated from the main living area with the aid of sliding glass doors. The simple addition of this movable partition turns the space into a multipurpose zone that doubles in size when the doors are opened.
The shell finishes of the home are done up in tones of black, white, and grey — hues that promise a timeless aura and fuse perfectly with the homeowner's vast collection of art and accessories. A copper wall has been introduced in the long entrance foyer to break away from the thematic materiality of the home. It leads to the powder room on the other end, that is clad in plywood and copper sheets, making it visually striking. One of the highlight walls here is finished in gold-leafed tiles to add warmth to the compact space. The bedrooms are bathed in subtle shades, feature en-suite facilities and walk-in wardrobes.
This house is a symphony of traditional and contemporary sensibilities, blending the best of both worlds. The team at We Design Studio have integrated spaces and used colour neutral materials to create an immersive and luxurious experience for the homeowners and their guests alike.
