The new three-court sports hall in Wangen im Allgäu replaces a 1970s sports hall. This marks the first application of the sustainable construction guideline developed by the Ravensburg district at this site. The hall is constructed using a hybrid timber system, featuring a solid core and a timber structural frame, with recycled concrete utilized for both in-situ concrete works and all prefabricated components. The slender timber frame, lacquered in a light green finish both internally and externally, stands out distinctly against the wooden surfaces of the walls and floors.

The facade design also merits special attention, characterized by an alternation of solid and transparent panels and cladding of tapered vertical wooden slats. The entrance area, housing the cafeteria, opens generously onto the forecourt. By contrast, the main sports hall – which can be divided into three separate sports courts – and the sports facilities on the upper floor are screened from external view behind solid facade panels.
