The Start Place

2016年，四周建筑的创始人和原来的团队一起，在成都麓湖为达根斯马术品牌设计了一处质朴、自由又充满想象的红砖马场。随着麓湖的发展，达根斯也蜚声全城，成为成都市最知名的马术俱乐部之一。而四周团队也一直与达根斯并肩，先后规划并设计了多家不同位置和客群定位的马术俱乐部。

In 2016, the founder of Atelier-Sizhou, working together with the original team, designed a rustic, free and imaginative red-brick horse farm for the Dargans equestrian brand in Luxelakes, Chengdu. As Luxelakes grew, Dargans became known throughout the city as one of the most recognisable equestrian clubs in Chengdu. The Atelier-Sizhou has been working with Dargans since then, planning and designing a number of equestrian clubs with different locations and clientele.

B. 设计与运营的配合

Design-Operation Alignment

本次项目位于天府新区中粮大悦城三楼转角处，拥有对外的观景视野。过去由于受到通风，层高和场地大小等因素限制，鲜少有马术俱乐部选址在商场内。因此在设计初期，我们特意与业主从设计与商业运营结合的角度出发，提出将此门店定位为对场地制约较小的初学者和选手孵化基地。同时，我们还融入了展陈，研学基地和主题餐厅等业态，希望以此提升项目的趣味性，并弱化场地劣势对马术专业性的限制。

This project is located on the corner of the third floor of COFCO Joy City in Tianfu New District, Chengdu, with an external view. Previously, few equestrian clubs have been located in shopping malls due to the constraints of ventilation, floor height and site size. Therefore, in the early stage of the design, we worked with the owner from the perspective of combining design and commercial operation, suggesting that this place can be positioned as an incubation base for beginners and competitors, which requires less constraints on the venue. At the same time, we also integrated the exhibition, study base and theme restaurant, hoping to enhance the interest of the project and weaken the constraints of the venue on the professionalism of equestrianism.

C. 场所设计特征

Design Challenges

在设计过程中，我们面临场地不规则、商场对运营场所的高卫生标准以及室内底层高带给该项目的压抑感等问题。因此我们决定，在满足马术俱乐部基本配套的情况下，将马术训练场空间最大化：在不规则的场地中优先为训练场规划出一块用地；另外，将马厩等清洁难度较大的功能区后置；而展陈，餐厅等人流较大的功能区前置，并不再用设计语言阻断由外向内的视线和人流，确保顾客可以直接从商场看见马场内部和室外的风景。

During the design process, we were challenged by the irregularity of the site, the high hygiene standards of the shopping malls and the high indoor ground floor height that might give the project a sense of oppression. Therefore, we decided to maximise the space for the equestrian training ground while meeting the basic demands of the equestrian club: we prioritised a piece of space for the training ground in the irregular site; in addition, we placed the stables and other difficult-to-clean areas at the back of the site, while displaying the showroom and the restaurant in front of the site, and avoided the use of design language to block the view and the flow of people from the outside.

D. 回归和远方

Return and distance

马术对人最大的情绪共鸣在于：通过马，和自然的连接。无论骑马与否，与自然共舞是最大的精神内核。因此，再一次拾起我们出发之地，麓湖红砖马场的记忆成为我们毫不犹豫的选择。采用由泥土烧制的红砖材料，既是来源于自然的提醒，也是品牌记忆的回归。更重要的是，对于无论骑士，还是观众，还是所有的人来说：这项运动，这个空间，引导我们“马”上抬头看，一直向远方。

The most emotional empathy that equestrianism has for people is the connection to nature, through the horse. Whether you are riding or not, dancing with nature is the greatest spiritual core. Therefore, we had no hesitation in picking up the memory of the Luxelakes Red Brick equestrain, the place where we started. The use of red brick material made from fired clay is both a reminder of nature and a return to the brand's memory. Most importantly, for riders, spectators, and all people: this sport, this space, guides us to look up from the horse and keep looking towards the distance.
