lines and dots is an exploration of a making method for an object meant for a side table and free-standing shelf, made with clay, wood, sisal twine, discarded concrete chunks, and liquid rubber. It is also an attempt to objectify and construct spontaneous geometry that is different from organic shapes.

Lines start from the bottom and continue to the top, intertwining with each other in a rather random manner to acquire stability while finding unexpected continuity. The location and positioning of these lines were determined by attaching sisal twine to the concrete chunk at the bottom, and these twines penetrate through the horizontal planes to the top. Once the positioning and continuity were determined, these sisal twines were covered by clay by hand; much like how Giacometti worked with clay for his figure sculptures, leaving a trace of fingers applying the clay. The horizontal wood planes that act as shelves and the top are given a round shape that is not completely circular in order to emphasize the seeming randomness and a sense of movement by the lines.

When the construction was completed and all the twine lines were covered by clay, the entire object, the concrete chunk at the bottom, clay, and wood planes, was covered by white liquid rubber, which gives an impression of the presence of unknown singular material.

The clay lines are then applied with black dots on the surface, also with liquid rubber. This adds to the sense of optical materiality as well as further spatial depth in and around the object. When items with vibrant colors are placed, the lines of white with black dots come alive and appear kinetic.

From the heavy chunks of the concrete feet to linear lines gradually going up with dots, these objects have an appearance as if they somehow grew vertically, evoking an image of a different kind of nature.
